DrupalCon Szeged: Day One

My first-ever DrupalCon and so far it's been amazing!

This morning I attended Dries' keynote talk (massive and major congrats to Angie Byron for becoming the co-maintainer for Drupal 7). Addison Berry  gave a fantastic intro to Drupal coding. I completely loved her train analogy for Drupal hooks. It goes like this: a train leaves the station pulling one car--a node. Along its journey it goes through various modules and picks up new cars for the train. It makes a stop at the Theme depot where it gets a complete overhaul and a paint job and new upholstery. Finally it pulls into the station and you see it in your Web browser.

This afternoon I had a short nap and then gave my own presentation, Open for (small) business. The talk was very well received with lots of excellent questions. I've uploaded a copy of the slides to slideshare. You should also check out the DrupalCon schedule as the slides are being uploaded to the site for all the presentations.

Questions and follow-ups and blog posts about the presentation are available from:

After that I went to the DrupalChix BoF. As part of his keynote presentation Dries mentioned that according to a recent survey women are now 10% of the overall Drupal community. This is up from 7% at the last conference in Boston! Yay!

And now I'm about ready to pass out. When I recover I'll be finishing up the Scoobert sock with Drupal heel (so that I can write up the pattern for the session on Friday). It's cutting it a little close, but I think I'll be able to get it all done.
